My husband, Hall of Fame running back Walter "Sweetness" Payton was a man in perpetual motion -
breaking tackles, breaking records, and clearing every obstacle in his path except the one that
took his life: cancer.
The first annual Walter Payton 16,726-Yard Run - the distance of his long
standing rushing record - will be held on September 18, 2004 to honor Walter's incredible
accomplishments on and off the field, and to raise money for life-saving cancer research through the
Walter Payton Cancer Fund. Thanks to generous corporate underwriting, 99 cents of every dollar raised
at this event will go directly to innovative cancer research programs.
