What a BEAUTIFUL trail!! Take the trailhead north out of the parking lot.. The trail starts out on a 4wd road and gently moves uphill until you turn left onto the Wapiti singletrack trail. The Wapiti trail gradually climbs and switchbacks its way 2.5 miles uphill. The grade stays very ridable, and stays in the trees (a good choice of trail for a hot day). At 2.5 miles, turn left or right to get on to the 2.6 mile Ponderosa loop. By turning left you'll go uphill towards the high point of ride first at 6,807 feet elevation. On this loop you'll experience very scenic Continental Divide views as well as front range views of Boulder Resevoir and Haystack Mountain. The round trip back down totals a nice 7.6 mile ride. Go check this ride out!

Take Highway 36 North, 3 miles past Boulder to Lefthand Canyon road (a left turn off the Highway; the Greenbriar restaurant is at this corner). Take a right on Geer Canyon Road. This will take you all the way to the parking lot for the Heil Valley Ranch trailhead.
