The Fossil & Prairie Run is North Iowa's most unique cross-county race. Hiking trails throughout the park are the course for adventure. Runners race down a flat road to a 150 ft footbridge over the Winnebago River, then pass historic bee-hive kilns heading into the fossil quarry as a prelude to a mowed loop through the tallgrass prairie. Uneven terrain is the best way to discribe the course. There are small hills with steps in the quarry and larger hills on the prairie loop. Beautiful landscape! Most racers walk the course afterwards so they can enjoy it's beauty!!
Refreshments, door prizes and long sleeve t-shirt to all pre-registered. Mountain bike is the top prize being given away. Trophies to top over-all male and female runners with medal to the top 3 places in each age group.
The Fossil & Prairie Park has it's Prairie Heritage Day with volunteers in period costume potraying early life on the prairie. A frontier market and food booth will provide spectators a chance to purchase a variety of goods from home-made pie to hand thrown pottery to pumpkins..
Fossil & Prairie Park is located in northcentral Iowa in Floyd County, Iowa 1 mile west of Rockford on B47. Race registration is in the lower level of the Fossil & Prairie Center.
