The trail is in the Larimer County Devil's Backbone Open Space and runs along the unique geological formation that is Devil's Backbone. There are several interconnected trails that provide a number of out and back and loop possibilities. A fairly well travelled lower section consists primarly of packed dirt and the outer sections are single track dirt and rock. Spectacular views, deafening quiet and a sense of serenity make this a great alternative to plodding along in traffic and the best part is that it's only about 4 miles west of the center of Loveland!

US Highway 34 west through Loveland, about 4 miles west of Lake Loveland. Look for the large water tower on your right and the signs pointing you to the Devil's Backbone Open Space. The road to the trail heads north from Hwy. 34 for ~ 1/2 mile. Good parking surprisingly clean toilets (my wife will even use them and she hates park toilets!) at the trail head. There's also a drinking fountain during warm months and a hand pump for water that's available year round.
