If you live in the Chicago suburbs or if you're just visiting, this is a must do trail run. The fall colors are a sight to behold.

You will have to cross four roads: Lake Ave, Central Rd, Golf Rd, and Ballard Rd. Golf Rd is the most trecherous. Also, you will need to cross the Chicago and Northwestern railroad tracks. There was a train passing during my run, so you can see the track I took in order to keep running (see the image gallery).

I was there on a Sunday and there were very few people on the trail. Several mountain bicycles, a few on horseback, several walkers, and two other runners.

From I 294 (Tri-State Tollway), take the Willow Rd exit and turn right on Willow Rd. Turn left (South) onto US-45 (SR 21 Milwaukee Ave). Go about 1.1 miles on Milwaukee Ave. Allison Woods Forest Preserve is on the right, across from Radison Hotel, just after Wimkleman Rd.

See satellite image of trailhead.
