The Carleton College arboretum is a fantastic place for a run. Nearly 900 acres of prairie and forest, there are many different running paths, stretching from West Gym on the Carleton campus northeast to the Iron Bridge on the Cannon River and southeast to the fabled Wall Street Road. There are more than 10 miles of trails, mostly flat or small rolling hills, all dirt or grass. Highway 19 divides the upper arb from the lower arb, but there is a pedestrian tunnel close to the Carleton Rec Center under the road that allows access from one side to the other. More information on the Carleton Arboretum is available at: http://webapps.acs.carleton.edu/campus/arb/
Carleton College is at 1st Street East and College Street in Northfield, Minnesota. From downtown Northfield, as you travel north on Division Street/Hwy 19, just past the track and West Gym, the lower arb is on your left and the upper arb is on your right.
