The Cardiac Ar?te is the first athletic event of any kind to be officially sanctioned on Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks property. It is designed to be a two stage event with a mandatory trail reconstruction component preceding the actual race.

The Cardiac Ar?te race will be ascent only and held on the south ridge trail of Mount Sanitas. It will follow the established trail from the wooden bridge at the picnic shelter at its base (at the mouth of sunshine canyon) to the survey pole at its very summit. Entrants will compete in 'time trial' fashion leaving one every minute. The trail will not be closed to other users though they will be encouraged to avoid the south ridge for the duration of the event. Entrants will be asked upon registration to give their best estimate of finishing time so as to facilitate proper start placement and thereby avoid congestion on the trail. To minimize crowding at the start all entrants will gather at 405 Valley View Drive (The race directors house, at the NE corner of 4th St. and Valley View dr.) prior to the race and leave in groups of ten for a brief warm up, up and over the Dakota ridge to the actual starting area.
