The Barr Tail Mountain Race is an all-volunteer small event where all (not SOME, but ALL) proceeds are donated to benefit local non-profit organizations. The BTMR is, as in past three years, 5 weeks before the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon. This will let you find out how your training is going and allow you enough time to make any needed adjustments.

Course overview: Run up Barr Trail to Barr Camp and return. Details:

The start is on Ruxton Avenue by the COG railway depot at an elevation of 6,570'. The race will proceed 6 miles up the Barr Trail gaining 3,630' where it will turn around at Barr Camp at 10,200'. Runners will then head back down the Barr Trail to Hydro Street where they will turn left and UP with the finish being in the pullout to the right for a total of 12 miles. The cut-off for the race is 3 hours and 30 minutes. There will be 9 aid stations located at the start/finish, 1.5/10.5 mile, 2.75/9.25 mile, 4/8 mile, and the 6 mile point at Barr Camp.

The quality of your race experience is more important to us than the number of runners we register. After each year?s race we use surveys to determine if we have the entry limit set at a number that is low enough to allow you to run a race that is not impeded by other runners while at the same time allows enough runners that you are pushed to do your best. The current limit is 400. A few spots beyond the entry limit may be given to those with outstanding running bios.

Visit the race website to register and for more information!

Parking:

The residents and businesses along Ruxton Avenue and Hydro Street have been very pleased with the fact that we try hard to stay out of their way. Simply put, there is NO parking within ? mile of the race start/finish and we ask that no cars turn onto Ruxton Avenue on race morning. Please park in the town of Manitou and do a warm-up walk, jog or run up Ruxton Avenue to the race start. There are three free areas recommended for parking and starting your warm-up:

Soda Springs Park. A .75 mile warm-up starting by 6:30 a.m.
Memorial Park. A 1.25 mile warm-up starting by 6:30 a.m.
Serpentine Drive and Manitou Avenue on the West end of town. A 1.25 mile warm-up starting by 6:30 a.m.
