This section of the Truckee River is open well after the fly fishing season closes just over the border in California. It is easily accessible and is just outside of Reno, Nevada should you find yourself stuck there. The fishing is pretty good through this entire stretch with the better sections further west. The area where Old Hwy 40 turns south and runs inder I-80 near the California stat line is the trophy trout area. You can cast to large visible trout in this section ... but they are also fairly wary.
