This trail was built and maintained as a bike trail and used to host a large mountain bike race every year (Tour de Wolf). Even though you may encounter bikes on trail, there is plenty of room. This is a really great trail. At times you hardly feel like you are in the middle of a big city.
You can run clockwise or counterclockwise (depending on the amount of bicycle traffic), but I usually prefer running it clockwise.
You can get details and maps inside the visitor's center if needed. The run starts at the Visitor's Center. Ride up the rangers' road to the top of the hill then just follow the signs. It is hard to get off trail if you just follow the signs and well travelled path.
Shelby Farms is loacted between Mullins Station Road and Walnut Grove Road. From the west, you can take the Walnut Grove road exit off I-240 and go east to the third stop light. You will see the park on both sides of the road. Turn left at the light and drive stright into the park. You will see Patriot Lake on your right and the Bison and Longhorn Range on the left.
From the east, follow Walnut Grove or Mullins Station until you see the signs. Park near the visitor's center, as the loop starts and ends here.

The Tour de Wolf is a great trail. It has just the right amount of hills, forests, meadows, and lakes. My only complaint is that there are a lot of dogs that sometimes get in the way, but I still love to use this trail for long runs. Even though the whole trail is just under 7 miles, I like to run out and back on the trail to reach 10-12 miles. There is enough variety on the trail that I don't mind repeating the same sections.
