This loop is traditionally a mountain bike trail, but also makes an excellent trail run. The terrain is mostly small rolling hills covered in hardwood and cedar trees with a fair sampling of roots and rocks. It is quite technical and rocky in places which can get very slippery after a rain - so bring your trail shoes. The trail winds in and out of a wooded section just west of Bell Road and J. Percy Priest Reservoir.

At the southern end of the loop you can go under Bell Road at the "Subway" and connect with the East Trail for an additional 2.5 mile loop. This loop parallels the shoreline of the reservoir. By connecting this loop you can get in a great 9.5 mile trail run.

Be careful and mind the bikes (after all it is a mountain bike trail) as it can get busy on the weekends. I would say it is not very dog friendly because of this.

Also be mindful of the parking area. There have been some break-ins and it is occasionally frequented by some rather shady characters.

From downtown Nashville take 1-40 east 5 miles to exit 219 Stewarts Ferry Pike, right on Stewarts Ferry Pike, straight on Bell Rd. 3 miles, left at Hamilton Creek Park entrance sign. The trail is located at the end of the first road to the right.
