I have done this race twice, and both times finished right near the cutoff at 12:00:00. It is a lot harder than one would imagine. Sure, you can ride 100 miles, but the altitude and the course make it a difficult undertaking to do in under 12 hours.
If you have ever done the Leadville Trail 100 Run, it is not as hard as that, but the time limits are just as hard to meet.
Actually, one of the hardest things is getting into the race. There is basically a lottery and the race fills up on the first day.
Great race, I highly recommend it. Get you long rides in, and make them fast.
