The United States Congress designated the Apache Creek Wilderness in 1984 and it now has a total of 5,666 acres. All of the wilderness is in Arizona and is managed by the Forest Service. Description
Small, remote, and relatively rugged, Apache Creek Wilderness offers rolling hills of juniper and pinyon pine interspersed with outcroppings of granite. Time and wind and water have smoothed the rock, providing excellent habitat for mountain lions and numerous bird species. Three natural springs feed several important riparian ecosystems, including Apache Creek itself. Elevations range from 5,280 feet to 6,970 feet.
There are currently no public access points, but hiking and camping are unrestricted. U.S. Forest Service rough roads encircle the area. Bring maps and a compass.
Directions
From Prescott, take County Road 5 to County Road 8 to 95A, which is an unpaved four wheel drive road.
